Objective of the Assignment:

The objective of this assignment is two-fold:

1. CARE will continue to work with legal organizations to offer legal assistance to GBV survivors on a one-on-one basis, providing legal advice and attending court cases when needed. Legal services may also include legal counselling, filing police reports, issuing marriage or birth certificates, and filing for divorce or custody. 50 GBV survivors will benefit from legal services.

1. Legal awareness sessions: Women will receive information about their rights, and on Egypt’s personal status law and applicability as Sudanese refugees. Sessions will include legal information on issuing legal marriage, age of consent, marital rape, reproductive coercion, divorce certificates, birth certificates, legislation concerning sexual harassment, land ownership, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and other relevant topics raised by participants.

Objective of the Assignment:

 The objective of this assignment is two-fold:

• The consultant will conduct several psycho social informative sessions around sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), its definition, forms, effects, and treatment using a psycho social approach to reach in total 120 Sudanese women through 6-8 awareness sessions conducted in with 20 participants. The sessions should also cover types of SGBV, trauma and PTSD, resiliency, a sense of isolation, emotional awareness, as well as managing emotions, anger, and memories. When addressing SGBV and child protection issues, there is a need for building long-term relations with the community. Through these sessions women will know and understand SGBV, child protection causes and effects, and will be aware of available services. After every session, pre- and post- evaluation surveys will be conducted in order to evaluate whether attendees have gained the desired knowledge.

• The consultant will identify SGBV survivors from the psychosocial informative sessions and from the individual counseling sessions conducted in need of psychosocial support in a group setting to reach in total 80 beneficiaries through conducting 4 psychosocial support groups each group for two-day workshop, each group with target of 15-20 participants. Professional psychiatrists and counselors are requested to facilitate psychosocial support in a group setting. The therapy group should be much like a safe place in which members gain a sense of belonging and acceptance, they share feelings and experiences which help them relieve pain, guilt and stress. Members should be able to share their strengths and help others in the group, which can boost self-esteem and confidence. By interacting with other people and receiving feedback from the group and the therapist, each individual can gain a greater understanding of himself or herself, explore how childhood experiences contributed to personality and behaviors. They can also learn to avoid behaviors that are destructive or unhelpful for them. Studies have shown that group therapy can be an effective treatment choice for depression and traumatic stress. In each session, a presentation on a specific topic will be conducted followed by small sharing groups where each participant will get the chance to share concerns among the group. Small groups are to be organized with two facilitators to ensure a peaceful session. Participants will agree on the rules of the group sessions such as respecting confidentiality, committing to attend all sessions, and reserving judgment.

• CARE Egypt is looking for professional psychiatrists and counselors that can provide individual psychosocial support/ counseling to 200 GBV survivors will be offered psychological support by expert counsellors specifically trained in GBV psychosocial aid. Each survivor will attend 6-8 individual counselling sessions with therapists trained to work with GBV survivors who experienced any type of SGBV incidents. Refugees traumatized by SGBV often have trouble making decisions and rebuilding their lives, so these sessions have trauma recovery as their main objective. Psychosocial support around wellbeing is also a key component to identify and address SGBV among Sudanese refugee communities.

• الخلفية عن المشروع:

 مشروع بناء قدرات منظمات المجتمع المدني العاملة في مجال المرأة (WPS) هو مشروع منفذ من مؤسسة كير مصر للتنمية بتمويل من كير المانيا و بالشراكة مع اثنين من منظمات حقوق المرأة الشريكة: مؤسسة مركز قضايا المرأة المصرية في الجيزة ومؤسسة وسائل الاتصال من أجل التنمية في القاهرة. وسيعمل هاتين المنظمتين الشريكتين لحقوق المرأة مع 10 جمعيات قاعدية لحقوق المرأة في محافظات والقاهرة والجيزة والقليوبية وأسيوط وسوهاج عبر المناطق الثلاث للمشروع: الدلتا ووسط وصعيد مصر. وفي الإجمالي فإن المشروع

 يهدف المشروع الى تطوير القدرة المؤسسية لهيئات ومنظمات حقوق المرأة وزيادة فعالية المنصات والشبكات والتحالفات لتتمكن المنظمات المحلية قيادة بناء السلام، وتعزيز صوت المرأة، ومشاركتها في صنع القرار. سيعمل المشروع على تحقيق الهدف من خلال ثلاث محاور أساسية هي :

• بناء وكالة للمرأة:

من خلال تعزيز القدرة المؤسسية لمنظمات حقوق المرأة  وزيادة حشد مواردها ، تحسين خططها الاستراتيجية فما يتعلق بالمرأة والأمن والسلام واجنده قرار ١٣٢٥ لمجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة، وخاصةً للنساء والفتيات المستبعدة والضعيفة

• تحويل الهياكل: 

من خلال زيادة قدرة منظمات حقوق المرأة والمجموعات المستبعدة والضعيفة من النساء والفتيات على المشاركة في حيز غير رسمي ورسمي لصنع القرار على المستويات المحلية والوطنية والمتعددة البلدان.

• تغيير العلاقات:

تعزيز جمع وتبادل التعلم بين منظمات حقوق المرأة ومجموعات النساء والفتيات المستبعدة فما يتعلق بالمرأة والأمن والسلام واجنده قرار ١٣٢٥ لمجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة على المستويات المحلية والوطنية والمتعددة البلدان.

Project Brief

Egypt is identified as a sourcing country with significant human and workers’ rights risks, particularly in the areas of freedom of assembly, occupational safety, and child labor. Discrimination, especially in terms of gender equality, poses a high potential risk. Vulnerable groups often face challenges advocating for their rights due to dependencies and unequal power relations. The economic empowerment of women and the creation of safe, non-discriminatory job opportunities are crucial for sustainable development. Gender equality is highlighted in the Egyptian women’s strategy 2030, emphasizing the need to expand women’s employment options, increase workforce participation, and ensure equal opportunities in various sectors. Despite these goals, discriminatory practices persist, exacerbated by weak monitoring and accountability mechanisms for non-compliance with the law.

The project will be implemented in Cairo, Fayoum and Aswan. It will employ a participatory approach, using tools like desk review and interviews. Promotion of workers’ rights and gender equity will be promoted throughout the interventions.

The methodology aims to develop a concise document to serve as a methodology and assessment tool for the business partner to assure the respect of workers’ rights within their supply chain.

The main goal of the project is:

Many business-based Women’s Economic and Social Empowerment (WESE) interventions fail to tackle deep-rooted issues (such as gender inequality, discriminatory laws, unsafe working conditions) and thus their impact is short-lived. This is because complex WESE issues cannot be adequately addressed without first developing the right tools to correctly identify the areas that need improvement.

A comprehensive approach requires working with private sector firms, their management, women workers as well as their communities to support a shift to gender- transformative policies and practices and an equitable enabling environment that have the needs and rights of women workers at their centre. As a food processing supply chain actor based in an industrialized country, Worlée has an important link to the risks or violations in its upstream supply chains. Worlée could use its influence on suppliers to improve the human and workers’ rights situation of women and other marginalized groups – provided Worlée has knowledge about risks and / or violations in its supply chains.
